Mob Logic

Now I normally don't like posting flash video, especially not from other sites. In a few years I bet this video wont work and this post will be a lot less useful. But I did want to share one take on the Florida delegate situation and share MobLogic.tv. The show basically takes to the streets and asks the general public about what they think is going on with regards to a myriad of issues. The host Lindsay Campbell came over from Wallstrip which is…

Social Graph(ing)

I've been missing writing again. I haven't been getting good sleep lately which kills my creative thinking processes. Didn't even get good sleep last night, but I did the night before so I'm up to the task.

Social Graphs

Last night over dinner I was given an idea about graphing social graphs. I'm not sharing that with you here yet.
Wait, what?

All those sites in one way or another are considered Social Networks they provide a way to link people t…

Well who knew? RAM persists!

God dammed Princeton kids! They broke everything!

Cold boot attacks on Encryption Keys

The best fix I could think of would be to wipe the key from memory (overwrite actually) immediately after you're done using it. Also maybe keep it scrambled, but that wouldn't be fool proof. Another idea would be to try to put the encryption key where it would be overwritten by the dump program. But you can't rely on that either, you could easily transfer the r…

Quotes from pulled from space, net, and time.

"It’s like Feynman says, physics is like sex — it may give practical results, but that’s not why we do it." - xkcd

" I see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he is expecting to wake up." - Morpheus from The Matrix

Repeated by HunterTV in reference to a leaked RIAA training video made for US prosecutors. Everyone loves a good manipulation of government and society.

"Cowardice asks the question…

Virtual Computers (that exist nowhere except inside computers)

I'm currently in the market for a new desktop. There are a few things I want to do with it, and they range from pretty simple requirements that barely need mentioning, to some pretty complex ideas.

  1. Large amount of protected storage. Raid 5
  2. Ability to play somewhat recent games. I don't play often but the occasional title catches my eye and I'd like to be able to try it out.
  3. Large amount of protected storage. Raid 5, having a single disk, actuall…

They had it coming.

I'm going to link you to a new favorite webcomic of mine.

Over Compensating

When you get there be sure to know what this particular comic is talking about. Read the news section below. It's important.

-Francis

PS The torrent is still at 20 seeds! I can't guess how many people have downloaded it! Mainly because I wasn't involved in most of those transfers. =) Let me know if you have any complaints.

Truecrypt 5!

Don't use this

It's been many years, TrueCrypt is not secure as it may contain unfixed security issues. Don't use it.

WOOO!!! Mac version of truecrypt!

Also now you can boot your entire PC from truecrpyt! This is the first free implementation of this that I know of for windows. (I'm probably wrong.) But from what I'm reading it's really really easy to do. That is probably a first. But without waiting for your entire drive to encrypt, you can basi…

Hacker Crackdown!

One of my new interests Cory Doctorow read a book (which is just as much in interest) called The Hacker Crackdown by Bruce Sterling. If you're curious why a bunch of kids playing on computers have an entire culture to work with then you should probably read this book. If you're curious about why in the beginning of the movie Hackers an entire SWAT team was allowed to storm a house (and presumably took every computer, electronic device, and piece …

RSS Feed

Since last mucking around with my site's templates I've started to use RSS pretty religiously. If you've subscribed to my site's feed you probably got the old ".rdf" RSS 1.0 feed as it was the only advertised up top.
clickmeforRSS.png
I've changed it to default to the new ".xml" RSS 2.0 feed and I've also made sure both feeds have my full post content in them. Nothing pisses me off more then a teaser feed. I have to warn you though, I like doing fancy things in m…

House is actually a Massive Attack Song

I normally don't like using media that's not on my own server because it can disappear and two weeks from now nobody will know what I'm talking about.

But...

The TV show house usesTear Drop by Massive Attackas it's theme song.

It also seems to have been heavily inspired by the music video for it's title credits.

By the way I encourage you to listen to moreMassive Attack.

So much to write

I think movable type is holding me back.

Anyway while I prepare a letter I wrote to be a news post (It was an answer to the question "How do I get my site onto Google?" which I over answered at work.) Enjoy this.

security_fence.jpg

I found it from a post on reddit, but apparently it was done by cartoonist Clay Bennett. And I said enjoy, which means I think it's funny, but honestly I don't. I think the state of things is pretty sad when it comes to our rights to pr…

Shit now I got to read all this history too?

Wikileaks busts Gitmo propaganda team who were apparently editing wikipedia and trying to influence digg and other "social news" sites.

The part that scares me is that this is probably happening all the time. And unless you've adopted a page and made yourself responsible for it's content you probably wouldn't notice.

There should be a way to rate changes to an article. Maybe like a digg system, as long as captchas are still effective we can keep …

Belkin good Comp USA bad

I almost got into a fight with a guy at Comp USA. Well that's a lie. I just didn't want to buy the $180 fancy Belkin router with the lcd display and curvy exterior.

"Does it have better range?"
"Yes"
"Then the linksys? or compared to the cheeper belkin"
(Which I might add I did buy, it's got an amazingly simple setup and a very strait forward instructions that I would trust my mother with. Never mind I skipped all that because I had to set it up …
